HUSKY'S HYLECTRIC MACHINE PASSES THE TEST WITH SCHÖTTLI
18 October 2006 - Husky Injection Molding Systems

Schöttli AG Mold Technology, a leading manufacturer of high-performance molds, has seen significant performance improvements in its mold testing program thanks to a new Hylectric 400 machine from Husky Injection Molding Systems.

Diessenhofen, Switzerland-based Schöttli subjects its molds to a variety of resin, temperature and pressure tests in order to validate pre-design analysis and to optimize injection and process control parameters. The 400-tonne Hylectric machine, a long version that can accommodate stack molds - has been installed in the company's application research area specifically for that purpose.

The Hylectric's grease-free design is well-suited for testing the many specialized, high-cavity molds for medical parts, closures and food packaging applications developed by Schöttli and shipped to customers around the world.

"Our molds are high-precision, complex products made to rigorous quality standards," said Alexander Anders, Head of Applications at Schöttli. "We were looking for a machine with the same outstanding precision and quality for testing. The Hylectric gives us longer mold life at lower tonnage, and shorter cycle times compared to other equipment. Husky's expertise, equipment and after-sales support fits our requirements well."

Husky's Hylectric provides Schöttli with a number of key advantages, including:

Wide tiebar spacing — Allows faster mold setup compared to conventional machines that require tiebar pulling for installing larger molds. Also allows the use of a wider range of mold sizes and cavitations in one machine.
Fast cycle times — Tests with a Schöttli 48-cavity closure mold resulted in a faster cycle time on the Hylectric machine versus a conventional machine.
Lower tonnage — The Hylectric's patented Reflex platens have allowed Schöttli to use less tonnage when testing its molds. This has helped significantly reduce mold wear and save energy.
Repeatability — The Hylectric provides Schöttli with the shot-to-shot performance and control it requires when testing its high-precision molds.
"Our experience in analyzing, balancing and optimizing machines and complete systems helped us understand the details of Schttli's equipment needs," said Sven Mätzig, General Manager of Husky's Germany South Technical Center. "Increasing global demand for medical and closure products has given Schöttli the drive to design molds with ever-increasing numbers of cavities."

"This means that mold operation, including hot runners, gating and part ejection, all require extra attention," Mätzig added. "That is why we concentrated on two objectives, fast mold changes and consistent shot-to-shot performance with fast cycle times."
