A new turret punch press has been introduced by FINN-POWER, priced to appeal to the entry-level user. The 230 kN, hydraulic model is designated X5 and is available through sole UK agent, Press & Shear Machinery, Tamworth. Having a working area of 1,250 mm x 2,500 mm without sheet repositioning, the machine is based on more than 20 years' experience of building hydraulic turret punch presses at the Finnish factory. The base machine has all core features of the manufacturer's presses but without any options, which the customer can choose before machine delivery or retrofit according to requirements. Compact and easy to install, the X5 has a rigid O-frame that ensures optimum tool alignment when nibbling or punching with high force. Seventeen positions in the 20-station turret are pre-specified, while for the other three, the user is free to select custom tooling, including indexing and multi-tools. Maximum tool diameter is 88.9 mm. Nibbling speed is up to 600 hits per minute and turret rotation speed is 133 rpm maximum. Maximum thickness that can be punched is 8 mm and the sheet can weigh up to 200 kg. The machine is equipped with a brush table for quiet operation and to protect the underside of the sheet. Machine control is by the latest Fanuc 0 iP. The full 230 kN punching force is available throughout the entire stroke and the press features programmable, stepless control of punching speed. Digital control of stroke depth for individual tools eliminates the need for manual shimming after sharpening and ensures optimum efficiency in all punching modes, including forming. Solutions for automated and manual loading of sheet and unloading of components have been designed for ease of use. A larger sheet is loaded simply by pushing it against gauge pins while for smaller sheets, a moving table is used which can be locked in five different positions. Sheet clamps have pneumatic central locking, either automatic or operated by a foot switch.
