SANDVIK LAUNCHES WOODWORKING EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE PACKAGES

Designed to allow sawmill operators to outsource the responsibility for maintenance and service requirements, the new service packages was being launched and promoted at Ligna 2003.

There are two packages available - Full Service and Full Responsibility Service.

Under the Sandvik Woodworking Products Full Service package, Sandvik and its partners undertake the maintenance of all woodworking tools in the sawmill. The customer retains ownership of the tools which are serviced as required, based on a fixed cost per sawn volume. The cost of the service relates, therefore, to the volume of lumber produced.

As well as servicing tools, Sandvik offers its extensive technical knowledge of bandsaws and the lumber processing industry to establish goals for higher feed speeds, improved cutting quality and greater productivity. Savings are shared according to previously established agreements.

Key benefits to customers are well maintained tools and the opportunity to minimise or eliminate the fixed costs for grinding equipment, personnel and buildings for an in-house operation.

Under the Full Service Responsibility package, the same tool quality guarantees apply, based on a fixed cost per sawn volume, as well as the technical support for greater productivity. Additionally, however, Sandvik undertakes the alignment and grinding of machine pulleys and preventive maintenance of machines for a yearly fixed cost per machine. Sandvik and its partners guarantee their performance and availability. Again customers retain ownership of the tools.
