PREMIER MATERIAL CONCEPTS EXTRUDES UNIQUE NO-SLIP, NO SKID MAT FOR STEP STOOL APPLICATION
Premier Material Concepts, custom manufacturers of TPE, ABS, HIPS, PP and acrylics for thermoforming, POP display material, converters and custom fabricators, has contributed to the success of an innovative step stool application by extruding a unique mat to function as a no-slip, no-skid top surface for the end product. Working in conjunction with Advanced Elastomer Systems, PMC developed a special four-resin component TPE blend exclusively for this application. Each component provides a unique property for the final product. Specifically: it was necessary for the extruded material to ensure a high co-efficient of friction. Rigidity was also essential so-as to withstand the rigors of injection molding. High heat resistance was vital so the material would not “bleed” during the injection molding process. A consistent matte finish was an aesthetic imperative. In addition to meeting a demanding combination of physical property specifications, this specialized TPE needed to be low-cost, thereby contributing to the commercial viability of the step stool to which it is molded. From a production standpoint, PMC extrudes the slip-resistant material, winds it, then sends it to a die-cutter. Die cut mats are subsequently provided to the manufacturer of the 13.5 x 17.25 x 7.75 inch step stool. The TPE is placed into an injection mold, a compound designated for producing the main structure of the step stool is then injected into the mold and onto the PMC material, thereby producing the final product.
