Q-Sense Inc. of Newport Beach in California, USA has sold and installed a research instrument for surface analysis to the Department of Bioengineering, Materials Science, Berkeley University in California, USA. Q-Sense Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Q-Sense AB, Göteborg Sweden.

Q-Sense has developed and sells research instruments and sensors to primarily scientists within the disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. The patented QCM-D* technology has gained worldwide acceptance through a scientific network of global opinion leaders, amongst them are researchers at Harvard University, Stanford University, Max Planck Institute and ETH in Zurich.

The QCM-D technology was developed at Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg Sweden and the company Q-Sense was established in 1996. Between the years 1996 to 1999 main focus was on technique and product development. From year 2000 the first generation research instruments have been sold globally and are today present in universities and industries in over fifteen countries.

About: Q-Sense AB
Q-Sense is the leading specialist in QCM-D technology, and was the first company set up specifically to develop the technique. It was founded in 1996 by researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and the company continues to work closely with researchers at leading universities throughout the world to ensure that QCM-D is at the forefront of developments.

Early year 2000, the company entered a more commercial phase and has since then, successfully sold research instruments to academic and industrial scientists worldwide.

Today, the company has a world-wide distributor network, instruments used in more than 20 countries and a subsidiary in the US. It is part of Biolin AB, a group which supports the development of innovation in science.

The QCM-D technique determines the mass of very thin surface bound layers and simultaneously gives information about their viscoelastic properties. This offers new opportunities to study conformational changes in layers formed on different surface materials, for example biomaterials. The unique properties of QCM-D make it an invaluable tool for studying macromolecules at surfaces and an important complement to existing technologies. Applications include biofouling, biomaterials, drug development and surfactants.
