YES!DELFT STIMULATES INNOVATIVE TECHNOSTARTERS

The Municipality of Delft, TU Delft and State Secretary Van Gennip of Economic Affairs, will launch a new initiative called YES!Delft, which will stimulate and support new and innovative technostarters. Young Entrepreneurs Society Delft consists of a Business Club and an Incubator.

In the Business Club, young engineers and students can exchange experiences and ideas on the business community while building networks. The incubator offers technostarters the support they need to set up a successful business. The Ministry of Economic Affairs supports YES!Delft within the framework of the creation of ‘opportunity zones’.

“The Netherlands is good in technological research,” says Prof. Marco Waas, coordinator for TU Delft within the initiative. “Technostarters from the university environment form the instrument that can convert that research into new products and services. They have the potential to be the ‘turbo chargers’ in our knowledge economy.” But often academics are less familiar with entrepreneurship. YES!Delft Business Club actively brings scientists into contact with the business community in an effort to stimulate the conscious choice for entrepreneurship. “We not only want to provide young academics with knowledge, but also with ‘entrepreneurial guts,” says Christiaan Mooiweer, city counsellor in Delft.

The YES!Delft Incubator is aimed at technostarters that want to develop highly technological and knowledge intensive innovations to a market ready level in four years or less. The Incubator supports these young entrepreneurs throughout the start-up period of a technological business and offers them access to the knowledge, advice and facilities of TU Delft, the Delft Municipality and the partners and sponsors of YES!Delft. The Ministry of Economic Affairs is financing professional support in the form of a formula manager. To be granted access to the Incubator, the technostarters will have to meet a number of criteria. Among other things, the feasibility of their business plans will be judged. “With the Incubator, we want to aim at starters that have the potential to grow into the leading companies of the future,” says Christiaan Mooiweer.

Among other things, YES!Delft will also support the interests of technostarters through structural cooperation with and support from the government and corporate sector.
