Shakopee, Minnesota: Precision custom molding of rubber products that incorporate special rubber formulation and mold making is a service provided by Rubber Industries, Inc. The M-Y Wedge for outboard motor applications is an example. Designed as a rubber sleeve that slides over trim/tilt mechanisms of outboard motors, the device provides motor support protection when the outboard is elevated during trailering. Rubber Industries’ in-house chemist and lab facilities designed and formulated a special compound starting with EPDM, a popular polymer known for its molecular structure that is impervious to ozone attack, and then customizing the formulation with high strength carbon black. With this new custom rubber formulation the M-Y Wedge product will withstand wear through repeated product usage. The compound functionality was designed to handle the weight of outboard engines up to 500 lbs as well as UV and water exposure. To handle initial prototype and market introduction quantities, Rubber Industries built a single cavity mold and provided a lab inspection system to ensure quality requirements were met. Providing this prototype service usually within 10 working days, Rubber Industries also has complete capabilities for large volume production of branded rubber products using injection, transfer and compression molding. Complete in-house milling and cryogenic deflashing capabilities combined with special packaging and assembly capabilities make Rubber Industries a full service rubber molding source.
