Lars Thorén, 41, has a MSc in Production Techniques from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and has extensive manufacturing and business management experience with AB SKF, AB Segerstrõm & Svensson and ESAB AB. He is currently Vice President of ESAB's Consumables business area and responsible for Operations in Europe.

Sandvik has recently changed its organisational structure within the Sandvik Speciality Steels business area. This includes a name change to Sandvik Materials Technology.
Sandvik Materials Technology comprises five business sectors: Tube, Strip, Wire, Kanthal and Process Systems. With the establishment of the new organization, the Sandvik Steel business sector ceases to exist.

The Tube product area specialises in seamless and welded tubes, fittings and flanges and is a world leader in tubular products made from advanced materials and special stainless steel alloys. Key markets include the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, power, electronics and many other industries where corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and reliability of operation are critical. The product area also markets complementary sheet and plate.
