SANDVIK SECURES MAJOR UMBILICAL TUBING ORDERS FOR WEST AFRICA
21 August 2002 - Sandvik Materials Technology UK

Sandvik Steel has announced that it has received orders for nearly half a million metres of duplex stainless steel tubing, for hydraulic and chemical injection lines for subsea umbilical cables, for ExxonMobil's prestigious and high profile Kizomba project and the equally important but smaller Zafiro project. Both are in West Africa.

Ordered by Kvaerner Oilfield Products, for fabrication in Norway, tubes, in various outside diameters, were chosen by ExxonMobil to be supplied in Sandvik SAF 2507 stainless steel - the super duplex grade which combines high strength with excellent seawater corrosion resistance. Tubes are due for delivery up to September 2002 and will be supplied in buttwelded, long lengths on reels.

Sandvik Steel is now a world leader for this type of product. Tubes have been delivered for subsea projects in all major offshore oil and gas regions worldwide. Over 18 million metres of umbilical tubing, between 11 mm and 89 mm outside diameter, have been delivered in the last 10 years of which over 10 million metres have been delivered in coils.
