SIX NEW GRADES OF DUPONT DELRIN ACETAL MEET NEEDS FOR LOWER VOLATILE EMISSIONS
15 December 2006 - DuPont Engineering Polymers
| “In this the 50th anniversary year of Delrin, our new grades underscore our ongoing commitment to adapt and improve the world’s first acetal resin to satisfy evolving customer requirements,” said George Hesser, Delrin marketing manager for the Americas. |
Lower Volatile Release Automotive manufacturers are leaders in pressing demands for materials with extremely low volatile release, particularly for parts installed in vehicle interiors and doors. Three new grades of Delrin are now available to meet such demands, and more are under development. The current grades include: Delrin 100PE, a high-viscosity resin with the best combination of stiffness, toughness and creep resistance among Delrin resins; Delrin 500PE, a general-purpose, medium-viscosity resin with an optimum combination of flow and physical properties; and Delrin 527 UVE, a medium-viscosity resin with excellent weathering resistance and an optimum combination of flow and physical properties. Volatile emissions from the new grades are up to 90 percent lower than those from corresponding standard grades of Delrin. Formaldehyde emissions fall below 1.0 parts per million when tested by DuPont using typical test procedures from automotive companies. Weathering Resistance Plus High Molding Productivity New Delrin 327UV has been developed to provide a combination of enhanced weathering and molding productivity. A medium-high viscosity resin, it cycles fast, shrinks uniformly and has low warpage. Its property balance is excellent, and it retains excellent surface characteristics after interior UV exposure. Reduced Wear and Friction Two new grades of Delrin give designers additional choices in materials for gears and other parts requiring lower wear and friction than standard grades. New DuPont Delrin 100TL combines outstanding impact strength and elongation with very low wear and friction. New Delrin 500MP acetal is an economical material choice for parts requiring low wear, friction and squeak. Its stiffness, strength and toughness are similar to those of standard medium-viscosity acetals.
