SANDVIK REPORTS SUCCESS FOR MULTISHIFT BANDSAW STEEL IN THE US
27 September 2001 - Sandvik Materials Technology UK

Sandvik Steel is reporting success for its Multishift™ wood bandsaw steel in the US market through one of its key customers, Cut Technologies in Bellingham, Washington.

Produced from Sandvik's high tensile Multishift strip steel, saws are manufactured and marketed by Cut Technologies in the US. They are fabricated to mill specifications with teeth cold cut by water jet to a profile that optimises the superior fatigue strength of the steel.

One customer to benefit from Multishift bandsaws is Summit Timber Co. in Darrington, Washington who have experienced longer running times and better sawing performance along with kerf and saw plate gauge reductions after running trials. Typically saws have run for 10 hours instead of the industry standard 4 or 5 hours reducing maintenance requirements and downtime for saw changes.

Summit Timber uses High Speed Steel for tipping as a cost effective alternative to swaging and to achieve the 10 hours running before regrinding.

Cut Technologies is also reporting similar and good results in sawing trials in other West Coast, USA mills. The company displayed the saws for the first time at the recent WoodTech 2001exhibition held in Portland, Oregon.
