SANDVIK AND SWAGELOK OFFER SAF 2507TM ALLOY INTEGRATED FLUID SYSTEM SOLUTION.
30 May 2001 - Sandvik Materials Technology UK
| A challenge posed by the oil and gas industry and an ambitious product development relationship between Sandvik Steel AB and Swagelok Company has led to a new SAF 2507™ alloy integrated fluid system solution that performs in highly corrosive, chloride-containing environments, such as oil and gas exploration and production activities.

The SAF 2507 alloy integrated fluid system solution is comprised of the Swagelok gaugeable SAF 2507 super duplex tube fitting, the Swagelok SAF 2507 super duplex weld fitting, an autogenous orbital welding process for welding SAF 2507 alloy components using the Swagelok welding system and Sandvik SAF 2507 super duplex tubing. 'This solution brings Swagelok's fitting and welding expertise together with Sandvik's materials expertise to create an integrated fluid system solution to an industry problem that has never been solved until now,' said Mike Valentine, manager, industrial markets, Swagelok. 'For the first time, there are tube fittings and a weld fitting system available for SAF 2507 super duplex applications that are easy to use and highly reliable.' Developed and patented by Sandvik, SAF 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel alloy that offers numerous advantages over 316L and other conventional stainless steels: superior strength, lower weight savings, increased corrosion resistance and the ability to operate at high pressures. The alloy has found acceptance in many chloride-containing environments. Swagelok and Sandvik initiated development of an SAF 2507 alloy product line in the second half of 1998. At that time, major oil companies, which have used duplex austenitic/ferritic alloys in welded sub-sea and deepwater fluid systems for chemical injection and similar applications, approached Swagelok distributors about the need for small-bore tubing systems that could perform in this environment. 'Swagelok and Sandvik addressed the challenge presented by the leading operators and developed an integrated solution based upon SAF 2507 alloy. The technical dialogue with end users proved to be instrumental during the development phase,' said Magnus Nyström, manager, market and application development, Sandvik Steel. The SAF 2507 alloy integrated solution offers significantly reduced life-cycle costs (LCC) through easier installation, better corrosion resistance and lower weight than conventional solutions. The SAF 2507 alloy products are available through Swagelok's global independent sales and service network. Headquartered in Solon, Ohio, U.S.A., Swagelok Company is a major developer and manufacturer of fluid system component technology for the research, instrumentation, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, power, petrochemical and semiconductor industries. Swagelok products are delivered through one of the world's largest manufacturing and industrial distribution networks. More than 30 Swagelok manufacturing, research, technical support and distribution facilities support a global network of 240 independent, local sales and service centers on six continents.
