Sharp has developed the LR38888 Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Multimedia Processing LSI designed to facilitate longer viewing times for terrestrial digital TV broadcasts on mobile devices (One-Seg).

Mobile phones are continuing to grow rapidly more diverse and offer greater functionality and higher performance, including being equipped with megapixel camera functions and high-resolution displays. Terrestrial digital broadcasts for mobile devices (One-Seg) will begin soon, and these devices are being redesigned to enable easy viewing of TV broadcasts at the same time that development of corresponding low-power electronic components is being pursued.

To respond to such needs, Sharp has newly developed a Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Multimedia Processing LSI that will contribute to longer viewing times for terrestrial digital TV broadcasts on mobile devices. This LSI:
1) Incorporates a proprietary high-speed media processing accelerator*2 and on-chip memory to achieve low power consumption when viewing TV, and
2) Dramatically reduces standby power consumption by incorporating a power supply cut-off switch within the chip itself.

Note that this LSI also features built-in video and audio output interfaces, and also provides the firmware needed for viewing terrestrial digital broadcasts, which will contribute to shorter development times for mobile devices that enable easy viewing of terrestrial digital broadcasts.

Major Features
1. Low-power technology contributes to long viewing times for terrestrial digital TV broadcasts on mobile devices.
2. Enables shorter development times for mobile devices equipped with TV reception functions.
