POLYMER GROUP INTRODUCES NEW TECHNOLOGY TO PRODUCE HIGHEST PERFORMING FABRICS FOR HYGIENE PRODUCTS
12 January 2007 - Polymer Group Inc

Polymer Group, Inc. introduced Comfortlace(TM) fabrics, its highest performing fabrics for feminine hygiene products that offer a customized appearance, greater absorbency and superior comfort.

The engineered fabrics are made with PGI's proprietary Laminar Air Controlled Embossing technology, a new manufacturing process that adds a soft, three-dimensional imaged or bulky surface layer to a reticulated film. This body contact layer directs liquids away from the skin and into the absorbent core.

In comparison tests for dryness, Comfortlace(TM) fabrics performed 97 percent better than other film laminate products and 90 percent better than film with 0.03 grams in rewet, according to the company.

"Hygiene has been a critical part of our business since its inception," said James L. Schaeffer, Polymer Group's chief executive officer. "The introduction of Comfortlace(TM) exemplifies our continued focus on offering the highest quality fabrics to help our customers differentiate and improve the performance of their products."

Expanded Product Family
Comfortlace(TM) fabrics, the highest end offering, joins Comfortsilk(R) and Comfortouch(TM). These apertured film products offer a silky smooth comfortable feel; dryness, cleanness and coolness; low friction against the skin; and customizable patterns.

The Comfort product family has been popular in Asia and PGI sees market potential for the product in other parts of the world. Comfortlace(TM) is the result of PGI's efforts to develop dimensionality in its products for customers. Comfortsilk(R) offers high opacity and masking, heat sealability, high strike through and low rewet. Comfortouch(TM) is an economic, value- added offering with good opacity and masking.

Breadth of Capabilities in Hygiene
As the leader in sublayer technology with the industry's broadest capabilities, PGI creates materials using a broad spectrum of technologies, including thru-air bond, adhesive bond and thermal bond for the hygiene market to meet a variety of performance characteristics and price points.

In addition to the development of Comfortlace(TM) fabrics, PGI is focusing its efforts in the hygiene market on several initiatives, including:

-- Introduction of a spunbond polyethylene for hygiene that offers the
benefits of added comfort and a more pliable topsheet.
-- Commercial production from its new spunbond line in San Luis Potosi,
Mexico. This line is fully dedicated to providing the Latin American
market hygiene products that offer superior uniformity at much lower
basis weights.
-- Development of fabrics with superior softness and added dimension.
-- Commercialization of proprietary fabrics with superior barrier
performance at low component basis weights.

These initiatives will allow PGI to continue to offer hygiene customers the highest quality and most innovative solutions in the industry.
