POLYMER GROUP, INC. ANNOUNCES PLANS TO BUILD NEW PLANT IN SHANGHAI, CHINA
Polymer Group, Inc. announced plans to install a state-of- the-art Reifenhauser spunmelt line at a new facility to be located near Shanghai, China. This new plant will serve the medical and hygiene markets and will double PGI's presence in Asia and further the company's position as the premier spunmelt producer in this market. The addition of the line will give PGI the ability to offer customers in this region ultra high performance medical barrier fabric, including their new MedisoftRx(TM) products. Additionally, it will enhance the company's capability to offer its proprietary soft hygiene fabrics. PGI's Nanhai operation is the only spunmelt producer in China qualified to produce medical fabric for the Chinese government. By expanding into Shanghai, the company will increase its ability to meet growing customer demand with the highest quality products in the industry. The strategic location also places PGI production closer to customers that are establishing locations in the Shanghai industrial area. Polymer Group's chief executive officer, James L. Schaeffer, stated, "Asia is one of our strategic markets to drive growth going forward. As many of our customers establish production in this region, PGI plans to grow with them. Our Asian operations are world class and this expansion comes as a result of requests we have received from our customers to provide more high quality material out of this area."
