SMARTCRASH BARRIER FOR FIAT SAFETY CENTER, TURIN ITALY
27 January 2007 - Kistler Instruments

Fiat Safety Center in Turin (Italy) has signed a “turn-key” order with Kistler to provide the facility with our SmartCrash Barrier. The complete instrumented impact surface is 2m x 1m. The SmartCrash barrier is split into two equal segments, each 64 triaxial force measuring elements with integral data acquisition and data storage. Kistler completes the scope of delivery with an additional offset block for EuroNCAP and different top plates for AZT 0° and 10° regulations.

Kistler completes the scope of delivery with an additional offset block for EuroNCAP and different top plates for AZT 0° and 10° regulations.

One SmartCrash segment consists of our well accepted SmartCrash 500 kN triaxial standard force measuring elements, the other segment made with our newly developed ultra light weight crash elements rated 300 kN. Thanks to impressive saving in weight of about 60 %, they can be used also for crash trolleys.

This feature will be used for future developments in Fiat Safety Center, and hence the easily reconfigurable architecture to different crash standards was decisive in choosing of Kistler SmartCrash barrier.

Fiat Safety Center add to the list of European car manufacturer that has decided to use the instrumented Kistler crash barrier, including Volvo, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Audi, BMW and PSA Peugeot-Citroën

About: Kistler Instruments
Kistler is one of the world's leading suppliers of measurement technology. Kistler pressure sensors, force sensors and accelerometers use the piezoelectric effect for precise measurement of mechanical properties.

Kistler is a privately-owned Swiss company which develops and manufactures sensors and electronics for measuring pressure, force and acceleration.

Additionally, the functionality of electronics plays an increasing role when defining a measuring system and even more frequently, electronics in fact becomes part of the sensor itself. Most of Kistler's products have been developed in close cooperation between leading universities or research facilities and Kistler's engineers.

Investments in Kistler's research department have led to the development of new crystals which enable reliable measurements to be taken under the most extreme environmental conditions. The results of our in-depth crystal research will give us a leading edge in advancing the state-of-the-art.
