CD-ADAPCO ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF THE STAR-CAD GATEWAYS V4.02: CAD-EMBEDDED SIMULATION
20 January 2006 - NAFEMS

January 20, 2006 London and New-York: CD-adapco announces the release of the STAR-CAD Gateways V4.02,CAD-embedded Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with access to the full capabilities of STAR-CD V3.26 and STAR-CCM+ V1.08.

This new version of the STAR-CAD Gateways for the Windows 32-bit platform includes: STAR-CAT5 Gateway for CATIA V5, STAR-Pro/E Gateway for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, STAR-NX Gateway for NX and STAR-Works Gateway for SolidWorks.

The STAR-CAD Gateways are add-ons to the full-spectrum CFD products STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+. They have been specifically created to enable engineers and analysts to undertake calculations directly within their CAD environment. Because the CFD model is fully associated with the CAD geometry, any design changes made in response to simulation results or otherwise, are automatically reflected in the CFD model, and subsequently the solution.

The latest version is packed full of new features designed to enhance productivity and workflow. The time to solution is significantly decreased with the implementation of new faster mesh generation and increased solver speed. Critical engineering data is now automatically presented in a fully automatic HTML report that can be distributed alongside a new interactive 3D results viewer that gives managers and team members a unique insight into the results of your simulation.

Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, CD-adapco’s Product Manager for the STAR-CAD Gateways, is enthusiastic about the new version: “Engineers and analysts need tools that enable them to carry out easily parametric ‘what-if’ studies with enhanced automation and true associativity between CAD geometry and advanced CFD models. Highly complex physics can be modeled directly within their CAD environment including, chemical reaction and combustion, multiphase and multiphysics”, he said. “The use of simulation templates customized by CFD analysts can also enable casual users to access advanced CFD features.”

As ever, the CD-adapco name can be relied upon to ensure you extended CFD simulation capability as your product complexity increases. This is the full-spectrum CFD solution uniquely provided by CD-adapco.

Dennis Nagy, CD-adapco’s Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, is excited about the future of full-spectrum CFD: ”The STAR-CAD Gateways have already successfully met the needs of design engineers, professional engineers and CFD experts and their use continues to expand across all industries”

CD-adapco is the leading global provider of full-spectrum engineering simulation solutions for fluid flow, heat transfer and stress, including CFD software, CAD-embedded CFD options, CAE consulting services and training. http://www.cd-adapco.com

About: NAFEMS
NAFEMS is a not for profit organisation aimed at promoting best practices and also fostering education and awareness in the engineering analysis community. In line with its objectives to promote the effective use of simulation technologies, NAFEMS is continually seeking to create awareness of new analysis methodologies, deliver education & training, and stimulate the adoption of best practices and standards by offering a platform for continuous professional development.

By the late 1970s and early 1980s, as computing power became more widely available, increasingly industry was starting to solve practical engineering problems using finite element analysis techniques.

There was however considerable concern that the accuracy of the methods, and software implementations, required to be verified in order to allow the results to be effectively used.

Following extensive lobbying, by industry and academia, the UK Government's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) set up, and funded, a project within the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), based in East Kilbride, Scotland, to investigate the issues.

As a result the National Agency for Finite Element Methods and Standards, quickly shortened to the acronym NAFEMS, was founded as a special interest group in 1983 with a specific objective namely:

"To promote the safe and reliable use of finite element and related technology"

In order to keep engineers abreast of the latest developments in the Analysis World the quarterly magazine BENCHmark was launched by NAFEMS in July 1987.

After seven years of seed funding by the UK government, and with the support of its industrial members, the decision was taken to launch NAFEMS Ltd as an independent not-for-profit company, owned by its member's in 1990.

The company celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2000, and has developed both the scope of its technology focus and its membership well beyond the original vision.

Today NAFEMS and its members are involved in many different types of engineering simulation covering both products and processes. Membership continues to grow, now exceeding 700 corporate members in over 30 different countries. Steering groups have been set up in the UK, France, Germany, and the USA to co-ordinate local activities and interaction with members.
