NEW DELIVERY FORMS FOR WIRE
03 July 2000 - Sandvik Materials Technology UK

Sandvik Steel has developed new and environmentally friendly coil and spool forms of delivering spring wire to its customers. Designed for easy handling and to maximise productivity for the customer, Sandvik coils and spools are recyclable.

Claiming to be one of the first companies in the industry to offer stainless steel spring wire delivered in Compact coils, Sandvik Steel can supply one continuous wire length per coil for wire diameters from 1.2 mm up to 5.00 mm diameter in coils weighing up to 1200 kg. Key benefits to spring makers are greater productivity through longer and consistent runs and fewer changeovers. The environmental benefit is that there is no spool for return or disposal.

Designed to be loaded directly on to the pay-off unit, as with conventional coils, Sandvik's compact coils are delivered shrink wrapped on a pallet in coil diameters of 650, 800 or 950 mm depending on weight. The delivery form enables both clockwise and anticlockwise decoiling requirements to be accommodated.

Also new for Sandvik Steel are basket spools for delivering spring wire. Produced as a 'one way spool' i.e. non-returnable, they are made from wire and as such satisfy environmental requirements to be recycled as metal scrap. Basket spools are supplied with a spool width of 90 mm and diameter of 415 mm and will take up to 30 kgs of wire.

The third new delivery form is a conventional spool for use on established pay-off equipment and systems but with the benefit of containing up to 500 kgs of wire for longer production runs. Also supplied as a 'one way spool', they are designed for wire diameters of 0.70 up to 3.60 mm.
