Hitchin based BBF Machining has supplied components to virtually every UK based Formula One team and manufacturer of race cars. The company is fully dedicated to motor sport with over 90% of its work in the industry. The continual pressure of demand is a way of life for BBF, a company with a vast array of CNC machine tools. The company makes extensive use of the Cyber tooling range from ITC, as it believes it is very important to select the right cutting tools. BBF partner John Bull comments: 'The racing car industry demands instant response. From receiving a file to the delivery of the component can be a matter of hours. We machine a host of difficult to cut materials such as titanium, Inconel and a selection of aluminium alloys.' 'ITC realise that while surface finish, tool life and repeatable accuracy are important, we need speed as well. An example of this is a drill with through coolant we use. The 6mm drill runs at 15,000rpm with a feed of 2.25m/min. For cutting aluminium alloy HE30, we use a 12mm Cyber ripper with a geometry designed specifically for the material. At 15,000rpm it achieves a feed rate of 5.5m/min, making it ideal for lights out machining.' 'With a high number of machining centres we continually need a supply of cutting tools and the technical expertise to support them. With this in mind, ITC supplies virtually all our standard and special tooling within 24 hours,' concludes Bull. The exponential growth of demand for the Cyber series continually sees ITC invest in new technology to produce tooling on a 24 hour basis. |
