Elhuyar was created in 1972, aiming to join science and the Basque language. Later its activity extended to the mornalisation of the status and corpus of the Basque language. In order to strengthen those activities, 30 years later, saw the founding of Elhuyar Fundazioa, a non-profit making entity that devlops its activites through the contribution of the members that share its objectives.

The chemist Mikel Arandigoyen Vidaurre, of the Department of Chemistry and Soil Sciences of the University of Navarra, has proved the effectiveness of new formulas for the restoration of buildings. In his thesis, defended at the School of Sciences, he proposes a combination of calcium and cement, which is able to strengthen the qualities of both materials.
