The Wallwork group provides metal heat treatment and surface coatings to clients in aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, medical and general engineering. The company’s foundry produces heat resistant castings, undertakes research with leading universities and manufacturers.

The extensive research and development department at the Cambridge site offers facilities for coating development and failure analysis using the latest techniques and equipment available. The Cambridge site also manufactures high vacuum equipment with a specialty in bespoke machines for vacuum coating, medical and research & development applications.

Wallwork Heat Treatment was founded by Robert Wallwork in 1959, after years of gradual expansion the Company moved to the present head office in Lord Street, Bury in 1979. Further expansion has since taken place including the setting up of Wallwork Cast Alloys in 1986, Wallwork Heat Treatment (Birmingham) Ltd. in 1989 and the acquisition Tecvac Ltd. in Cambridge in 1997.

The group employs approximately 230 people offering a comprehensive heat treatment & hard coating service to the manufacturing industry. In recent years the group has invested extensively in new equipment and training in order to offer a high quality, competitive service to the aerospace, motorsport and medical industries

Wallwork Cast Alloys was originally setup to provide the group with nickel-chromium jigs and fixtures for use in high temperature furnaces, it now supplies these components to the industry all over the world.

Dedicated manufacturing unit established for vacuum brazing

Surface engineering specialist Tecvac has established a dedicated cell for production of complex components by vacuum brazing. The unit is designed to braze ′one-off’ and development components but also has the capacity to produce high volumes of commercial parts using vacuum furnaces of varying size.

Following the signing of an exclusive licence agreement, Tecvac is now providing the complete line of CemeCon resilient coatings to UK tool manufacturers and users. Tecvac is able to replicate CemeCon processes and is fully authorised to market these branded coatings and give users technical support with assured rapid turnaround. This follows on from an investment of £1.2 million in its Cambridge coating plant by the parent company, the Wallwork Group.
Heat treatment specialist adds non-ferrous furnace capability

Thermal processing and surface engineering specialist, Wallwork Heat Treatment, has commissioned a new 800kg capacity furnace for processing aluminium and magnesium products. The new furnace provides variable heat treatment for cast, forged, wrought or fabricated components from single items of up two cubic metres to batches of components as small as 0.5mm diameter.
Personnel changes at surface engineering specialist

Surface engineering specialists, Wallwork Heat Treatment has announced a number of planned senior management changes. In preparation for eventual retirement, Manchester site director Richard Burslem is to step down from the board but will continue to work part time with the company alongside technical director Peter Carpenter. Burslem’s role will become the responsibility of production director Ian Griffin.

Diamond-like coatings service prolongs tool and component life

Surface engineering specialist, Tecvac, is advocating the application of Diamolith, a diamond-like carbon coating to improve the endurance and performance of critical engineering components. The Cambridge based company, part of the Wallwork Group, has introduced a service for the application of the high resistance and highly lubricious surface treatment for manufacturers throughout the UK.
