Machining and Metal Cutting
: 26 September, 2013 |
High-performance cast-iron machining leads to extremely high mechanical and thermal loads. Conventional dimple-style clamps attempt to hold the cutting insert in place with direct point contact, which can break both clamp and insert under high pressure. Now, Beyond Shield from Kennametal provides a rigid and reliable clamping system for high-performance cast iron machining. |

|
Machining and Metal Cutting
: 15 November, 2012 |
As a corrosion inhibitor and biostatic agent, boric acid has been a highly effective and cost efficient constituent of metalworking fluids for many years. It is also a substance that is now on the ′substances of very high concern’ list. As well as being more expensive, the majority of products free of boron and formaldehyde donor biocide are not as stable against bacterial growth as their forerunners. |

Thermal machining system that cuts engineering alloys faster and with less energy than conventional milling |
|
|
Machining and Metal Cutting
: 02 May, 2011 |
Andy Trimmer, a chemical engineer at the GE Global Research Process Systems Lab operates the Blue Arc thermal machining system that cuts engineering alloys faster and with less energy than conventional milling. An engine blisk for a GE CF34-8 regional-jet engine illustrates the precision machining required for such engineered products. Now, GE is exploring licensing opportunities for BlueArc, with machine builders and OEMs who would deploy as a roughing process for other operations, It predicts similar benefits from reductions in machining cycle time; lower tooling costs, and the opportunity to implement lean manufacturing concepts. |

White Paper/Technical Guide: how to Match Today |
|
|
Laser Cutting
: 28 January, 2011 |
In 2008, when the original edition of this white paper was first released, the idea that laser cutting could be successfully integrated into flexo and digital printing operations was widely considered a possibility for the very distant future. In just three short years however, the continuing improvements in best-in-class laser cutting technology have not only made incorporation of laser cutting into flexo print operations a reality, but also allowed the combination of digital printing with digital cutting (aka laser cutting) to bring more variable data products into the world at highly competitive prices. |

Single source for high performance hybrid package lids |
|
|
Photochemical Machining (PCM)
: 24 June, 2006 |
Critical to the success of manufacturing semiconductor and optoelectronic hybrid packages are their lids, which must be highly accurate and exact fits, to ensure electromechanical integrity. Traditionally, manufacturers of hybrid packages, or tubs, buy the lids separately and may have to use more than one sub-contract source for specialized finishing, such as electroplating. The time and logistical problems associated with these supply methods have now been solved by single-source specialist, Tecan. |
