High-quality construction requires high-quality materials. Whether building a luxury hotel, an office high-rise or a residential block, it is essential that construction components deliver a balance of aesthetics, cost efficiency and enduring performance. 3M’s range of bonding and adhesive materials provides a strong foundation of solutions for those who design and construct today’s top-quality structures. In addition to their excellent bonding and sealing properties, 3M materials offer unique solutions for decoration, protection, noise reduction, energy conservation, and faster production and installation times.
Glass panels, for example, have found increasing use as curtain walls and for interior partitions. The mechanical constraints have increased with the dimensions of these glass panels, requiring higher rigidity in frames and corner cleats. In these applications, 3M’s VHB acrylic foam tape and structural adhesives can help distribute applied loads over an entire bonded area. Fewer potentially fragile stress points translate into outstanding fatigue resistance.
High-Performance VHB foam tape and structural adhesives from 3M also provide design flexibility and lasting quality for stylish glass curtain walls, which are appearing in more and more building designs. These materials provide invisible but durable bonds between the composite and glass panels that comprise curtain walls. For interior architectural designs specifying fixed or relocatable partitions, 3M’s foam tape and adhesives are designed to permanently fix glass panels onto aluminum or painted steel frames in one easy, quick, and clean operation.
A significant portion of total outlay in construction goes to windows and glazed units, where the cost of product failure is also high. Consequently, even less critical components, such as glazing bars, must meet the standards and guarantees of the building industry. To help manufacturers meet long-term reliability needs, 3M offers not only acrylic foam adhesive tape, but also its Jet-weld adhesive for bonding glazing bars.
For roofing and skylights, 3M offers a selection of visco-elastic bonding solutions that provide excellent sealing properties against tough outdoor elements. These weather-resistant materials protect against water ingress and help absorb dynamic loads and thermal expansion.
Door manufacturers will find that 3M’s range of adhesive epoxies and foam tapes help them to convert and bond a wide range of different substrates. Besides delivering high quality and quick production efficiencies, these materials also form invisible bonds between diverse substrates, including aluminum, wood and PVC plastic. Protective elements, including masking and film, help deliver perfectly finished doors.
Beyond structural integrity and product quality, 3M materials also address challenges associated with noise reduction, protection, and decoration. Its Fastbond™ water-based fixed insulation foams solve the problem of sound and thermal insulation between offices and meeting rooms. These permanent adhesive foams deliver three times better coverage and can be applied in a clean and convenient spray that is solvent-free and safe for operators.
3M’s wide range of self-stick Bumpon protectors offer a quick and permanent solution to the shock and noise associated with all opening systems, but particularly for glazed sliding doors. These high-resilience polyurethane materials reduce unwanted noise and vibration and are also virtually invisible.
Finishing and decoration increase the beauty and value of commercial buildings and private houses. Because they bond to virtually all substrates, 3M’s range of tapes and adhesive products offer smart and effective design options for decorative mirrors, sun blinds, shower cabins, and integrated lighting systems.
3M’s Accentrim™ self-adhesive material provides elegant beveled glass effects without the high cost. Easily applied during or after a glazed element’s manufacture, Accentrim is resistant to shrinkage, yellowing and delamination.
Lighting systems from 3M further enhance architectural effects, while its Scotchtint™ solar films improve light and temperature conditions within a structural space. Lastly, 3M’s Scotchshield™ films and its glass-bonding technologies lend anti-blast features to all glazing elements.
These and other 3M materials provide solutions to designers and builders who confront the challenge of constructing distinctive, high-quality, and enduring buildings. |
