3M touch systems exhibits large format screens

3M Europe : 27 June, 2006  (New Product)
3M Touch Systems is displaying the latest additions to its range of screen products and technologies for the gaming market at the Amusement Trades Exhibition International/International Casino Exhibition (ATEI/ICE) 2006. A key attraction will be the new 32' ClearTek II touch screen designed to address the emerging large format needs of the casino and gaming industry.
Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to see, for the first time, an innovative display technology from 3M, which is set to change the perception of projection screen viewing. Other highlights include demonstrations of the new Immersion TouchSense technology and large format Dispersive Signal Technology.

Large format ClearTek II
The latest addition to the MicroTouch ClearTek II product line will enable casino game manufacturers to design the next generation of large format slot machines and casino operators to provide eye-catching and dynamic applications for their guests. Key features of the 32' ClearTek II touch screen include fast and accurate touch performance, physical durability, vibrant optics and a smooth, easy glide surface to ensure a high-quality user experience.

Immersion TouchSense Technology
3M will also be demonstrating the new Immersion TouchSense technology concept targeted at the casino gaming and bar-top amusement industries. TouchSense technology enables touch screens to generate tactile cues, promoting a more intuitive, engaging and natural experience for the player. Players perceive that on-screen buttons press and release as if they were physical buttons. In addition, TouchSense tactile sensations can be synchronised with sound and graphical images, creating a more immersive experience.

Large format DST
MicroTouch DST from 3M will be featured on a 40-inch LCD display panel on the stand. DST represents a fundamentally different approach to touch. Unlike other solutions that recognise touch by the interruption of electrical fields, acoustic waves, optical fields, or infrared light, DST recognises touch by interpreting bending waves created in the overlay substrate via the impact of a touch. This approach helps eliminate performance issues associated with on-screen contaminants and surface scratches, while offering enhanced palm rejection. All of these features represent key functional advantages for gaming and amusement applications.

Vikuiti eXtended Resolution Video Screen
A highlight of the ATEI/ICE exhibitions will be the new XRVS rear projection display screen from 3M. XRVS screens set a new benchmark for visual displays offering innovative ways of communicating high-impact visual information to target audiences in countless applications, including the gaming floor of a casino or betting office.

Available in sizes up to 95-inch diagonal, XRVS is far more eye-catching than traditional front or rear projection screens and offers a flexible, light-weight and cost-effective alternative to LCD panels or Plasma screens of similar size. XRVS excels under a range of lighting conditions and enables impressive reproduction of multimedia presentations including HDTV. By combining wide viewing angles with high levels of contrast, the screens can be viewed by a large number of individuals without compromising image quality.
