3M's new splice/holder integrates splice, actuation tool & holder in one package

3M Europe : 11 June, 2007  (New Product)
3M's new Fibrlok II splice/holder is the only product available that integrates the splice, actuation tool and holder in one package. The Fibrlok II splice/holder 2539 for 250um and 900um tight buffer fibers enables fast, on-site installation of single-mode, fiber-to-the-premise connections without an assembly tool.
The Fibrlok II splice/holder, designed for the final drop to the house or restoration of a broken fiber, can be used inside or outside buildings and at wall outlets, fiber distribution units, terminals and network interface devices. Small enough to fit in a pocket, the Fibrlok II splice/holder eliminates the need for expensive fusion splice equipment.

To make a splice, the fibers are prepared and inserted into the Fibrlok II splice/holder and the actuation button pressed with the thumb to close the cap. This forces the clamping surfaces against the fibers, aligns them precisely and permanently locks them in place. Buffer clamps on each side of the splice provide 900um fiber strain relief for long-term stability and reliability. Very-high-bond tape on the bottom holds the Fibrlok II splice/holder permanently at the splice location, which is especially useful at optical network terminals.

The Fibrlok II splice/holder can be purchased separately or preterminated with an SC/APC or SC/UPC connector.
