Europe’s domestic appliance manufacturer Bosch und Siemens-Hausgeräte is to use Akulon Ultraflow in the E-Motors of their new generation vacuum cleaners.
The high flow characteristics of Akulon Ultraflow allow for increased productivity and greater design freedom, making it the perfect product for use in the brushholder housings and end-laminates of the UL/EN-approved vacuum cleaner motors.
Facing the requirements of the new white-goods standard (EN60335-1), Bosch und Siemens-Hausgeräte selected the UL certified flame-retardant Akulon Ultraflow K-FKGS6 (PA6 GF/FR) for this application. The material is able to meet the increased demands for resistance to heat, fire and tracking. Akulon Ultraflow K-FKGS6 complies with the Glow-Wire-Ignition-Test up to 800C at 1.0 mm and is flame-retarded according to UL94 class V-0 at 0.75 mm.
Akulon Ultraflow, which is manufactured by DSM Engineering Plastics, was launched recently and is already proving to be successful. Its exceptional flow properties make Akulon Ultraflow K-FKGS6 the best choice for use in parts with thin wall thickness and long flow-paths. Moreover, the high flow reduces injection moulding cycle times, thus significantly increasing productivity in comparison with a standard PA6 GF30.
Other key advantages include high quality appearance, extended tool life and the ability to use smaller injection moulding machines, reducing overall capital investment.
Akulon Ultraflow PA6 is based on DSM proprietary technology. It provides up to 80% greater flow and up to 25%-40% cycle time reduction in injection moulding when compared to standard PA6 grades, with no significant loss of mechanical properties.
Thin-wall items with long flow paths and high-appearance benefit especially from Akulon Ultraflow owing to better surface quality and lower moulded-in warpage and other internal stresses.
Typical applications include under-bonnet automotive components and assemblies including air cleaners, intake manifolds and engine covers; automotive appearance items such as door handles and mirror brackets; electrical components such as connectors, junction boxes, and terminal blocks; power tool and lawn and garden enclosures and housings; a wide variety of sports equipment, including ski bindings, and inline skates; and a broad range of appliance and building and construction applications.
