Autotype wins Queen's Award for Enterprise

Autotype International : 21 April, 2005  (Company News)
Autotype, the world
This is the third time Autotype has been granted a Queen's Award, the first one in 1985 for Export, followed by a Technological Achievement Award in 1994. The 2005 Award was granted for the pioneering work carried out by Autotype in the field of formable hard coated films for Film Insert Moulding (also known as In Mould Decoration) and recognises both the level of long term product research and development carried out by the company and its ongoing commitment to manufacture in the UK.

Film Insert Moulding techniques have been designed to reduce the number of component parts and process stages required for the manufacture of a wide variety of products, ranging from mobile phone handsets through to automotive and appliance control panels. There are essentially just four process steps, which can significantly reduce manufacturing costs and product lead times while improving product quality, functionality and performance. Film Insert Moulding also provides a unique capability for low cost decorative customisation of three dimensional parts giving designers new opportunities to use both colour and texture.

The success of the Film Insert Moulding technique depends on the film materials and complementary texturing lacquers used and Autotype has played a key role in the development of films and matched lacquers that are easy to handle and process. These offer a unique combination of mechanical and chemical properties enabling them to be used successfully in a wide range of applications.

Autotype's Managing Director, Peter Levinsohn, explains that the Queen's Award for Enterprise, 'Recognises the exceptional work carried out by our scientists, technicians, engineers and production team at our headquarters in Wantage in Oxfordshire, and by our sales, marketing and business development teams around the world. Together with all of our support staff, they have identified the long term potential for Film Insert Moulding and in particular have worked closely with our customers throughout the mobile communications sector to create an exciting new range of materials that exemplify the dynamism and innovation associated with both Autotype and the UK's global business leaders.'
