BOC Edwards Releases New Controller for Special Gas Delivery Systems

BOC Edwards today announced the global release and availability of its new intelligent Gas Source Controller, an automatic controller designed specifically for delivering special gases into ultra high purity applications, like the semiconductor manufacturing process. It is available for use on traditional gas cabinets for cylinder gases, valve manifold boxes and bulk special gas systems.
BOC Edwards today announced the global release and availability of its new intelligent Gas Source Controller, an automatic controller designed specifically for delivering special gases into ultra high purity applications, like the semiconductor manufacturing process. It is available for use on traditional gas cabinets for cylinder gases, valve manifold boxes and bulk special gas systems.

The first units were shipped to a major Taiwan semiconductor foundry in June. The iGSC features a user-friendly 10.4-inch touch screen display for programming multiple operating modes, purge sequence cycles and setpoints into gas delivery systems. The touch screen is supported by an intelligent control computer, based on the powerful Motorola 68000 microprocessor family. An embedded Windows CE CPU module interfaces with standard PLC racks for communicating via I/O signals.

The touchscreen has resident memory, an added benefit as it frees up memory on the PLC for other gas dispense programming. The controller menu functions are password protected and user-definable. It is designed with hardware and software expansion capability and intrinsic barrier protection. Interfaces for transducers, switches and scales are accessed from the electric control panel, which includes an optional Ethernet capability. The iGSC controller was designed and built in accordance with SEMI S2-93A, EMC, and ATEX directives.
