BOC hardy annual holds answer to every welding query

BOC Gases : 20 September, 2006  (Company News)
BOC Industrial is issuing its popular welding and cutting manual, BOC Tradefile, in a new hardbound catalogue and for the first time in the UK is to make it available to retail teams and over the counter at selected BOC Industrial trade outlets.
BOC Tradefile is a practical guide containing the collected wisdom of BOC welding engineers, technical specialists and health and safety experts, many of whom have written specific chapters or contributed to subscriber updates.

Now in its fifth year of publication and with over 5000 regular subscribers, BOC Tradefile has been built chapter by chapter to provide a comprehensive range of hands-on advice including: ‘how to guides’ on welding processes, trade tips on improving welding and cutting techniques, efficiency and performance as well as advice on selecting the right process, gas and equipment.

With a heavy emphasis on safety BOC Tradefile will benefit users by helping them run their business safely, carry out risk assessments, set up emergency procedures in the workplace and develop a good understanding of safety with gases and welding processes.

Dynes Woodrow, BOC Industrial's marketing director said: 'Every day thousands of businesses throughout the UK rely on getting the most from their welding gas and equipment. Aside from first rate equipment and a reliable source of gas it is crucial that anyone who regularly works with welding, metal cutting and industrial gases, whether in a garage, factory workshop or building site, has a thorough understanding of the processes and knows how to handle, store or transport gases safely.

Said Woodrow; “Whether welding is a livelihood or hobby a comprehensive manual that guides the user through a maze of work related legislation, provides tips on techniques and common problems and the variety of welding joints or MIG welding with aluminium, will always prove invaluable.

“BOC Tradefile brings all our welding knowledge together in one place and by making it available through selected BOC Industrial outlets and keeping updates in a sturdy file, we are ensuring that as many users as possible need never go elsewhere for expert advice.“

BOC Tradefile is clearly divided into seven chapters:

• legislation and obligations – including health and safety, noise at work, manual handling, working in confined spaces
• safety at work – how to store, handle and transport gas safely, typical hazards such as metal fume fever and including those associated with working in confined spaces
• trade tips – includes how to avoid common weld defects, MIG welding of aluminium and stainless steel, heat treatment, joint design
• products – includes property and safety with acetylene gas, oxygen, argoshield, propane
• process knowledge - includes MIG welding, TIG welding, cutting with oxygen
• safety self assessment – includes safe storage, handling and transport of gas cylinders, handling emergencies, confined spaces
• emergency procedures – covers what to do should cylinders leak or be involved in a fire.

BOC Tradefile is available for a yearly subscription of just £33. Over the course of 12 months subscribers receive two updates each with a range of different chapters and updates on relevant legislation in a sturdy BOC Tradefile ringbinder.
