BOC to double its Thai carbon dioxide capacity

BOC Gases : 20 August, 2003  (Company News)
BOC is doubling its carbon dioxide capacity in Thailand with a second plant in Rayong. The plant, which will go online in the fourth quarter of 2003, will be able to produce 300 tonnes a day of CO2, most of which will be used to support Thailand
BOCís wholly owned subsidiary, Thai Industrial Gases, is building the plant to meet demand for CO2, which processors use to chill and freeze food. Thai exports of value added food products to markets in Japan, Europe and the U.S. have expanded over the past few years, resulting in an average growth rate of some THB 6.75 billion a year for the countryís food processing industry.

'TIGís CO2 business has grown to meet increased customer demand. Although industry growth rates have slowed somewhat, we are optimistic about the longer-term prospects for growth and for CO2 demand. TIG has decided to make this investment now to ensure that customers can rely on us for a secure source of high-quality CO2 as they look to expand their businesses,' said Nithima Panthanyanont, marketing manager, Process Gas Solutions, TIG.

Through TIG, BOC is investing more than THB 220 million (USD 5.1M) in the plant and ancillary production capacity, which will be located next to BOCís existing 300 tonne a day CO2 plant. Besides food processors, BOC also will supply CO2 to beverage makers and will look to develop local demand for other applications, such as pH control.

'Besides supplying CO2, BOC provides customers with the freezing technology and equipment they need to freeze their food quickly and efficiently at the peak of freshness and taste. BOCís freezing solutions are engineered to ensure maximum reliability, flexibility and performance to give Thai processors competitive freezing costs in the world market,' said Narapan Bunyanan, business manager, food, TIG.

Food processors look to BOC for the engineered solutions they need to achieve total process control in their plants. BOC uses the best available services and technologies to help customers address their atmosphere, microbe and temperature control needs. Customers benefit from BOCís global experience and local expertise in providing a range of custom offerings, such as cryogenic gases, ozone and UV light technologies, modified atmosphere packaging, and water management services so they can deliver the highest quality food to their customers.

Over the past 100 years, BOC has earned an unparalleled reputation for quality and dependability in supplying high quality and cost-effective CO2 to customers around the world. We supply more than 3 million tons of CO2 per year to more than 5000 customers worldwide from more than 90 plants located in more than 25 countries on 6 continents.
