Borstar products for water and gas distribution pipelines

In many countries PE is already the standard choice for drinking water mains and natural gas distribution pipelines. PE100 pipes are quickly gaining market share from ductile iron, PVC, GRP, concrete and steel pipes for larger diameter pipes. Medium density PE80 pipes continue to be commonly used for smaller diameter service pipes due to their excellent flexibility and coilability. |

Thanks to the Borealis owned Borstar process, pipe polymers can be designed to specific application requirements, which results in products with superior processing characteristics. The Borstar product range covers both black and coloured products, including dark blue and yellow-orange PE 100 and both black and light blue and yellow PE 80.
There is a clear improvement in processing performance using Borstar 'LS' technology. 'LS' stands for 'low sagging' behaviour, which has been a problem for polyethylene pipes of larger diameters. Using Borstar products, pipes up to 1,600 mm have been produced without any problems concerning uneven wall thickness.
An improvement in 'Long term crack growth resistance' has been shown with the new Borstar PE 80 products. Better results in the well-known notch test lead to greater tolerance in relation to installation of the pipes.
Borstar products provide significant benefits to pipe producers in terms of processability and production, including higher output rates and the possibility for extruding larger diameters. Borstar products also provide benefits along the entire value chain, resulting in operational, installation and lifetime benefits for pipe installers and distribution system managers. |
