Certified reference materials for doping control, forensic toxicology and food analysis

LGC : 14 April, 2005  (Company News)
From 1st April reference standards from the National Measurement Institute, Australia will be available in Europe from LGC Promochem. Under the agreement LGC Promochem has the exclusive right to distribute NMIA reference materials in Europe and a non-exclusive right for other parts of the world, excluding Australasia.
Announcing the agreement, NMIA's CEO, Dr Barry Inglis, said 'This deal is a major marketing step for NMIA. LGC Promochem is the largest distributor of reference materials in Europe, with offices in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Italy and Sweden. They know all about logistics and the associated import documentation requirements, and that means that European users of our materials will get even better service and quicker delivery of products from a technically expert local supplier.'

NMIA produces over three hundred certified reference materials in three key areas: forensic drugs, sports drugs and veterinary and agricultural materials. All are primary reference standards by definition of the ISO guides and are accompanied by a certificate of analysis and a report. Before their release onto the market, all reference materials are reviewed by a panel of external experts and NMIA has third party accreditation as a reference materials producer.

NMIA reference materials for forensic analysis include over a hundred pure substance materials for the analysis of drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine, heroin and ephedrine as well as a wide range of related compounds, their precursors, intermediates, metabolites, profiling impurities, manufacturing identifiers and surrogates.

NMIA plays a leading role in doping analysis, and supplied most of the substances on the prohibited drugs list by the World Anti Doping Agency for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney as well as performing the tests for these drugs. Their range of over 150 reference materials for sports drugs analysis concentrates on steroids, and covers pure-substance materials for the analysis of steroids and their metabolites. The range includes synthetic steroids including nandrolone, stanozolol and boldenone; endogenous steroids; pro-hormones and growth promotants.

Through its chemical synthesis and analytical capabilities, NMIA produces a range of some 60 certified reference materials for agricultural and veterinary residue analysis. The NMIA range includes pure-substance materials for the analysis of agrichemicals, their metabolites and surrogates; veterinary steroids and their metabolites; growth promotants and their metabolites and antibiotics and their metabolites. One matrix reference material containing certified levels of nine pesticides in a tomato puree has also been produced.

All the NMIA products are international state-of-the-art materials with certified property values with uncertainty statements. All assigned values are fully traceable to the international system of units and each product carries a comprehensive analysis report and homogeneity and stability studies. In addition, NMIA has third-party accreditation as a reference materials producer operating to ISO Guide 34.

LGC Promochem brings years of expertise in the European market: fast service and short delivery times backed up by competent product specialists trained by NMIA. All products supplied by LGC Promochem will have been custom cleared in the EU and verified for their controlled substances status, and will be provided with information in customers' local languages and time zones.
