Dieflex Auto cutting rules benefit diemakers and diecutters

Sandvik has announced that its Dieflex Auto |
|
Dieflex™ was the world's first edge hardened cutting rule to combine the contradictory requirements, in metallurgical terms, of good bendability and high wear resistance. The current range of 8 shaved and ground rules types are produced with different properties and characteristics to suit the cutting requirements of the packaging and board converting industries.
Dieflex Auto brings benefits to both diemakers and diecutters.
For diemakers, the key benefit is consistent bending on automated bending machines. The product properties, which affect bendability the most are body hardness, decarburisation depth, microstructure and thickness of the strip material. The total variation in each of these characteristics is closely controlled in Dieflex Auto giving more consistent bending and less machine adjustment being required.
For example, the variation in a bent angle from one batch of rules to another will be less than 1° degree in a 90° bend. This consistency in material leads to a better material yield and less shape adjustment before mounting the bent rule into the die.
For Diecutters, the key advantages are reduced - make ready time, mainly due to the accuracy and control of rule height - in general less than 10 micron within a batch or along a coil - combined with excellent flatness. The edge in Dieflex Auto is always sharp which reduces dusting from the cut substrate. High edge hardness ensures a long-lasting edge for both shaved and ground edges and high body hardness gives excellent stability to the rule.
This combination of Dieflex Auto properties makes it possible to run presses faster without distortion of the rule or die. |
