Distrupol adds Electrical Performance Comparator Card to its toolbox for designers and moulders

Distrupol : 19 May, 2006  (New Product)
Distrupol, a leading European polymer distributor, technical service and solutions provider, has added an Electrical Performance Comparator Card to its toolbox of aids for designers and moulders engaged in the development and production of electrical components. With the wide diversity of polymers available for these types of applications and the complex array of property combinations they represent, the Comparator Card is designed to provide a simplified route to material selection.

'Selecting the right material for an application from the outset is key to an efficient product development process,' says Distrupol polymer engineer Derek Bean. 'It helps to reduce the time and costs of bringing a product to market. The Electrical Performance Comparator Card consolidates the key material data in a simple, easy to use format to give the customer a development edge.'

Electrical performance polymers are used in applications ranging from light switches, electrical fittings and power tools to computer housings, keyboards, cables and conduits, among many others. To ensure the safety of installers and users alike, all polymers that are used in parts and components associated with electrical or electronic applications must meet stringent performance levels and safety requirements.

Distrupol offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios of materials used in electrical and electronic contact or surrounding applications. These are qualified according to their performance against a range of standard industry tests including dielectric strength, hot wire ignition, comparative tracking index and heat deflection temperature.

'Because of the diversity of materials the Electrical Performance Comparator Card provides a convenient, accurate aid to finding the optimal match of material with application demands. Through the card's cross-comparison chart the designer or engineer can quickly determine material properties against primary criteria,' says Bean.

Because the Distrupol portfolio embraces all generic polymers it significantly reduces the time otherwise taken in reviewing and comparing separate material data. According to Derek Bean: 'This provides a unique advantage as polymer producers provide data only in respect of their own materials, whereas we provide our customers with a comprehensive across-the-board comparison.'

Distrupol has substantial experience of working with the OEMs and moulders of electrical components and can provide the necessary technical back-up to support them at each stage of the product development process, taking projects from Art-to-Part. The company's technical assistance includes initial design and material selection, through computer modelling and mould flow simulation to optimising production.
