The Board of the EPDM production joint venture DSM – IDEMITSU ( DIC ) has announced that it will close its EPDM plant in Chiba, Japan by September 30, 2004.
This follows an earlier announcement from DSM that it is rationalising its current EPDM activities including closure of the Chiba Plant.
DSM Elastomers will continue to serve its EPDM KELTAN customers in Asia with a full range of KELTAN products, manufactured at the Company’s facilities in Geleen, The Netherlands and Triunfo, Brazil.
In 2003, DSM Elastomers inaugurated a completely new, state-of-the-art EPDM production unit in Geleen with an annual capacity of 80 Kt.
Management has confirmed that the new plant- which is one of the largest of its kind- is fully operational and delivers the expected volume of world class products.
Almost all customers have re-approved these new products and phase-out plans for the Japanese plant are in place.
