DSM Engineering Plastics expands production capacity

In direct response to increased demand for its engineering plastics, DSM Engineering Plastics, a business group within DSM Performance Materials, has increased the capacity of its compounding facility in China.

In direct response to increased demand for its engineering plastics, DSM Engineering Plastics, a business group within DSM Performance Materials, has increased the capacity of its compounding facility in China.
The new compounding capacity is located within the existing state-of-the-art facility in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, and represents a significant new investment in the facility. The existing site was the first wholly-owned compounding facility in China.
The increased capacity will be used to supplement the production of DSM’s Akulon polyamide 6 and 66,Arnite thermoplastic polyester, and Stanyl polyamide 46 materials, both for the domestic China market and also to support the increasing export to other markets in the Asia Pacific region.
“This is a major step for DSM globally, and highlights the importance of the China market within our global growth strategy,” said Roelof Westerbeek, Business Unit Director DSM Engineering Plastics, Asia Pacific. “In just five short years, we’ve been able to grow our business in China, and today we directly employ more than 100. Further, DSM is one of the leading suppliers of both polyamide and polyester in China.”
Products manufactured at the Jiangyin facility include Akulon, Stanyl and Arnite. Akulon is a range of PA6 and 66 resins that covers all types of applications: film, automotive, electrical and consumer and industrial goods. Akulon Ultraflow is a unique product that provides exceptional flow and aesthetics allied to the various properties of normal polyamides. Arnite PBT and PET resins are suited to precision moulding in automotive and electrical and electronic applications, as well as selected extrusion applications. Stanyl is the highest performance polyamide available for toughness, durability, processability, wear resistance and high temperature capabilities. The new capacity is effective immediately and raises production at the facility by 40%.
