DSM Engineering Plastics opens first research and technical centre in China

DSM Engineering Plastics (Sittard) : 10 December, 2003  (Company News)
DSM Engineering Plastics is opening a new research and technology centre in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, China.
DSM Engineering Plastics is opening a new research and technology centre in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, China. The new Regional Development Service Centre (RDSC) is a world-class laboratory and applications engineering facility that will deliver local-language support for existing and potential customers in China.

Providing materials testing and characterisation, as well as grade and applications development, the new centre will provide on-the-spot assistance that was previously provided from one of DSM’s other facilities in Japan, the Netherlands, Taiwan or the United States.

“This a significant milestone in DSM's strategic growth plans for engineering plastics in China and Asia,” said Jan Waninge, Marketing and Sales Director of DSM Engineering Plastics Asia Pacific. “China represents one of the most important markets in the immediate global future for DSM. While our business is to supply quality engineered plastics, at DSM we constantly strive to look for partnership with customers. It is our basic policy to understand in depth both the application and the processing step at our customers. Only by application development, which considers design, material and processing as an integrated unit, can optimum end products be created, both in terms of performance and cost. To achieve this, the new RDSC will ensure that users of DSM products are able to utilize the best solution to help them create new value from their products and designs. The new facility employs highly qualified applications engineers, all of whom fundamentally understand the environments and markets that our customers operate in and so are able to help them meet their very specific and often unique challenges.”

Initially, the new Centre will concentrate its efforts on assisting and expanding on work already undertaken in the different countries by local Application Development engineers, who have been offering design and simulation support to the market.

“Already, this approach has paid dividends globally,” continued Jan Waninge. “Stanyl PA46 HF grades with High Flow technology enabled us to meet the needs of the global connector industry. These grades were characterised by very high flow properties, without compromising on the strength of the materials, making it possible to manufacture connectors with the very long flow lengths with extremely thin walls. And the added benefit of very high pin retention and high temperature solderability, Stanyl PA46 is the choice of the connector industry today. I expect that this level of customisation will soon become commonplace in China as well, as our customers and prospects start to make use of the new Centre.”

The new Centre is located in Zhouzhuang, Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province and will provide support to customers nationwide.
