The first computerized database for plastic stock shapes is available from DSM Engineering Plastic Products. The unique software program, which is very user friendly, provides extensive property data and information about available shapes and sizes. |
|
DSM EPP's Electronic Materials Selector is an interactive CD-ROM that supports Windows 95 and Windows NT environments. A Pentium processor or better with 16 MB of RAM, VGA or higher monitor and a minimum of 20 MB disk space are required. Installation takes only about three to five minutes. The DSM EMS is available for $10, plus shipping and handling, to qualified users of plastic stock shapes. It can be purchased online at www.dsmepp.com
The first computerized database for plastic stock shapes is available from DSM.
The DSM EPP EMS works by a process of elimination. The user first selects 'Material Selection' and then chooses between 'Structural' and 'Bearing' applications. Next, the user selects performance requirements 'Service Temperature,' 'Maximum Stress,' 'Compliance (FDA, USDA, NSF, UL, etc.),' 'Chemical' and 'Miscellaneous ('Purity' and 'Conductivity') requirements. Then, by selecting 'Show Materials,' property data is displayed for all materials that meet the application's requirements.
Complete data for an individual material can be viewed or placed side by side for a comparison with other selected materials. The proerty data and comparisons can printed. All data can be viewed either in 'English' or 'SI' units, e.g., 'psi' or 'Mpa.' For the material(s) chosen, a click of the 'Product Availability' button will provide information about the shapes (rod, plate, bar, etc.) and sizes available for the selected material(s).
Since each of the selection criteria are shown as an individual window, altering the performance criteria is easily done. At all times during the materials selection process, a 'Help' button is available to assist the user.
Updates of the DSM EPP EMS will be provided to all registered users. During installation of the EMS, the user completes a user identification form, which can be faxed or e-mailed to DSM EPP.
If you want quick access to data to assist in selecting a plastic stock shape and want thorough information on how various materials compare, the DMS EPP Electronic Materials Selection software is your answer. Gone is the hassling with 3-ring binders, piles of data sheets or searching through file cabinets for supplier literature, which may not be complete. |
