Duplex steel added to Sandvik hollow bar range
Sandvik Coromant UK
: 30 November, 2000 (Company News) |
Further development of its Sanmac stainless steel hollow bar for machining has enabled Sandvik Steel to announce the addition to the range of duplex steel grade Sandvik SAF 2205 (UNS S31803).
Suited particularly to applications where corrosion is likely, due to chlorides being present, Sandvik Sanmac SAF 2205 duplex stainless steel has high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride bearing environments. It also has high resistance to general, pitting, crevice and erosion corrosion and to corrosion fatigue. Its mechanical strength is roughly twice that of austenitic stainless steels and it offers good weldability.
Sanmac SAF 2205 hollow bar combines its excellent corrosion resistance with the enhanced machinability of the Sanmac steels. Key applications are seen as components for pumps and valves and mechanical seals for the petrochemical, oil and gas and food industries where erosion or chloride induced corrosion are a problem.
Manufactured in a size range from 32 mm up to 250 mm diameter and available from stock in a wide range of sizes, all Sanmac SAF 2205 hollow bar is corrosion and impact tested in accordance with standard oil and gas industry requirements.
A key feature of the supply of Sanmac hollow bar is Sandvik Steel's production and distribution capability. Production is located centrally at Sandvik's manufacturing plant in Sweden. This enables close control and monitoring of material properties from melt to melt and guarantees consistent machining quality from batch to batch. There is a fully automated central warehouse supported by distribution centres and regional stocks worldwide.
