DuPont Engineering Polymers will grow its automotive industry market share by 'creating new value' in that industry, it was announced today at DuPont's pre-Kunstoffe press conference.

Patrick Cazuc, Automotive Marketing Manager for Europe, DuPont Engineering Polymers, said: 'Our marketing approach is based on market segmentation and lifecycle management. We aim to create new value for our customers through productivity gains and innovation.

'By managing applications all the way through their life cycles from embryonic beginnings through emerging and mature growth, initial substitution and decline, we create value for our customers through innovations that ride new trends and meet new industry standards, and productivity gains that improve material and processing performance.

'Whatever the lifestyle stage of the application, it is the goal of DuPont Engineering Polymers, as a leading supplier, to create value for the various companies throughout the supply chain, from our direct customers to first tier suppliers, car manufacturers and ultimately, consumers.'

Cazuc explained that DuPont Automotive has multifunctional, pan-European teams specialized in segments like powertrain, car exterior, car interior, chassis, thermal management and electronic/ electrical: 'The role of our people is to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in these segments in order to offer added value, knowledge intensive solutions to our customers. We give our teams the task of generating new ideas that can sometimes produce fairly innovative steps forward for the entire supply chain.'

He said that the strategy of DuPont Engineering Polymers is straightforward: to provide solutions for market needs. The goal of the business is to create new opportunities for Engineering Polymers by the 'intelligent replacement' of metal, rubber and thermoset plastics.

Cazuc pointed out that: 'Today's European cars contain about 130-140 kg of plastic but an average of 22 kg of that amount consists of engineering polymers. Meanwhile, there are also 40-50 kg of elastomers and over 1,000 kg of metal per vehicle! DuPont sees the replacement of these materials as one of fast-track growth.'
