Ensuring the surface quality of electrical and electronic equipment

3M Europe : 30 September, 2003  (New Product)
Sensitive surfaces feature in virtually all electronic and electrical products that incorporate screens, lenses or viewing windows. The solution to minimising this risk and the consequent costs incurred by product damage is surface protection film.
Because they fulfil both aesthetic and functional roles, scratched or marred fascias and screens of electronic equipment result in rejection at the quality inspection stage or, if damage occurs during transportation, they are rejected at the point of sale.

Sensitive surfaces feature in virtually all electronic and electrical products that incorporate screens, lenses or viewing windows. In the consumer market they can include computer screens, calculator windows and cell phone fascias. In the industrial sector surfaces at risk range from touch-sensitive controls to radar screens and instrument panels.

At every step in the manufacturing and delivery cycle these vital components are exposed to the danger of scratching, abrading and marring through handling, whether manual or automated, packaging, storing and shipping.

The solution to minimising this risk and the consequent costs incurred by product damage is surface protection film. Easily applied to exposed surfaces, the film provides a highly effective shield against impacts and abrading contacts. It ensures that electronic and electrical products reach the point of delivery and, in the case of equipment for industry, completion of installation, in factory-approved quality.

Designed to protect appearance and performance values, 3M™ Surface Protection Films deliver a durable, effective and economic shielding solution. Moreover, they provide protection without detracting from a products’ aesthetic pre-sale appeal. After sale or installation, the film’s easy peel property allows removal with no adhesive residue, leaving a clean tack-free surface.

To complement any product line, 3M Surface Protection Film is available in colour or transparent in a full range of adhesive strengths, in thicknesses from 35 to 100 microns and widths between 20mm and 2540mm on rolls up to 3000m in length.
