FiberSIM Software from Composite Design Technologies is chosen by Fairchild Dornier

Composite Design Technologies, Inc. announced today that Fairchild Dornier has purchased CDT's FiberSIM software to design and build the composite components for the 328JET and 728JET as well as future components for the 428JET and 528JET.
FiberSIM will assist Fairchild Dornier in reducing the cost and time required to design and manufacture composite parts by helping designers quickly create and transition accurate designs, drawings, and related data from preliminary design, through detailed design, and ultimately onto the manufacturing floor.

FiberSIM, the world leading software for composites, is a suite of software tools that transforms existing CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics CAD systems into high performance tools for designing and manufacturing composite parts. The FiberSIM suite includes the Composite Engineering Environment, Flat Pattern/Producibility, Documentation, Analysis Interface, Laser Projection, and Flat Pattern Export applications. All interaction with FiberSIM is through the familiar CAD user interface, using standard and custom menus. The applications evaluate native CAD geometry and display results within the CAD system without translation or approximation.

The 328JET, dubbed the first true 'regional' jet, provides superior comfort, jet speed, and excellent field performance. With the widest cabin in its class (7 ft 3 in/2.18 m), the 328 features full standing height (6 ft 2 in/1.89 m), comfortable airliner seats (18.1 in/0.46 m), ample space for luggage, and low interior noise level, making it an ideal airliner, corporate shuttle or executive corporate transport. The 328's field performance, productivity and economics will enable it to replace current 30-seat turboprops even on short routes and its jet block speed will replace older generation jets and establish new long and thin routes.

Entering service in mid-2001, the 70 seat 728JET will combine heavy jet transport levels of passenger comfort with regional airfield capability and a 1,600 nm range. It will feature low operating costs, modern systems and an optimized maintenance program for high utilization. The very wide cabin (128 in, 3.25 m) with its large seats will provide more passenger comfort than is available on existing long-haul airliners. The 728 will set a new regional airline standard for baggage capability and will have a 76,866 lb/34,860 kg MTOW, 5,000 ft take-off field length, a 4,500 ft landing field length and a cruise speed of M 0.8 at 37,000 ft.
