Honeywell Boosts Plastics Additives Research Capability in China and U.S. - Adds new extruders and other equipment in Shanghai and New Jersey labs to complement previous investments in Europe.

Honeywell today announced it has boosted its research and development capabilities for plastic additives in China and the U.S. by adding new extruders and other equipment at development and application laboratories in Shanghai, China and Morristown, New Jersey.

The investments were announced at NPE 2006: The International Plastics Showcase held in Chicago, Ill. from June 19-23.

“We continue to invest in state-of-the-art equipment in all regions of the world to ensure we remain an innovative leader in plastic additives,” said Lincoln Germain, Honeywell’s business director for specialty additives. “These investments will allow us to continue to develop new products and customize our existing, broad additive offerings for our customers in the around the globe.”

The investments include two extruders, one a Battenfeld BEX 2-68-28v twin screw 68mm parallel extruder, installed at the plastic additives laboratory at a Honeywell Center of Excellence facility in Shanghai, China. The laboratory was completed in early 2005 and serves as a center for research into new products as well customization of existing additives for customers worldwide. Honeywell also added a new Cincinnati Milacron 35mm twin screw conical extruder to its research laboratory at Honeywell’s headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey.

The investments follow upgrades to plastic additives research facilities in Seelze, Germany, another of Honeywell Specialty Materials’ research and development Centers of Excellence, in 2004 and 2005. Honeywell also conducts research on additives in Columbia, Mo. It produces additives in Columbia and Orange, Texas.

Honeywell has been a leader in plastic additives for more than 50 years, when it became the first commercial manufacturer of low molecular weight polyolefin polymers. Since then, Honeywell continued to innovate for customers with the introduction of PVC lubricants, PE waxes, and many recognized brands including, Honeywell Rheochem, Honeywell A-C, Honeywell AClyn, Honeywell Acumist, Honeywell OptiPak, and Honeywell Lumilux.
