Hot Tip offers moulders a wider operating window

Husky’s new wear-resistant Ultra Hot Tip for hot runners is designed for engineering-grade resins and allows an improved processing window and superior gate quality for a wide range of applications.

The new tip addresses problems that are associated with engineering-grade materials - narrow processing window, gate freeze-off and high wear. The Ultra HT’s steel insert provides increased wear resistance, while the composite retainer enhances the thermal profile of the tip. A wider processing window provides the moulder with greater flexibility when moulding difficult-to-process glass- or metallic-filled materials. As well, the thermal properties of the new tip are ideal for polyolefin applications, reducing the risk of stringing.

Extensive testing has proven the wear-resistant properties of this new tip design. After 400,000 cycles running 33% GF PA (nylon), the Ultra HT did not show any signs of visible wear. Additionally, the process window was expanded by over 75%.

“The Ultra Hot Tip can be used for a wide range of commodity and technical applications, and engineering-grade resins,” Martin Baumann, Husky’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Hot Runners, said. “Compared to our current Ultra 750 hot tip, the new tip can help establish a wider operating window and a reduced set-point. This can help the resin enter the cavities at a lower temperature, often leading to faster cycles and better gate quality.”

The Ultra HT is currently available for Husky’s Ultra 500, 750 and 1000 nozzles. This design fits the existing HT gate detail with no modifications required.
