In six colors, new devices double the light output of comparable PLCC-2 LEDs

Vishay Electronic : 23 April, 2004  (New Product)
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a complete family of power SMD LEDs that deliver exceptional brightness thanks to a specially designed leadframe profile that greatly improves device heat dissipation.
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a complete family of power SMD LEDs that deliver exceptional brightness thanks to a specially designed leadframe profile that greatly improves device heat dissipation.

Offered in a PLCC-3 package with a low 270 k/W thermal resistance rating, devices in the new Vishay Semiconductors TLMx320x series can be driven with higher currents to enable twice the brightness of comparable LEDs in the PLCC-2 package.

A suite of six color options includes super red, red, orange, yellow, pure green, and yellow green, with typical luminous intensity ranging from 50 mcd to 1250 mcd when the LEDs are driven with a forward current of 50 mA.

Designed with a non-diffused lens that simplifies backlighting displays and coupling to light pipes, the new TLMx320x LEDs will be used in a wide variety of lighting and display applications, including dashboard lighting in cars, traffic signals and signs, advertising billboards, LCDs, and A/V systems.

TLMx320x LEDs are luminous intensity, color, and forward-voltage categorized per packing unit, with a low luminous intensity ratio per packing unit of 1.6 or lower to ensure a homogeneous light characteristic. Built using AllnGaP technology, all devices in the family feature a 60 angle of half intensity. In addition to being rated ESD class 2, the new LEDs are suitable for all soldering methods according to CECC.

Provided in 8 mm tape-and-reel form, samples and production quantities of the new TLMx320x LEDs are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
