Integrated solution optimizes composite design and manufacturing capabilities

Composite Design Technologies, Inc. today announced the release of the world leading FiberSIM software for composite design and manufacturing on Pro/ENGINEER from Parametric Technology Corporation. Integrating FiberSIM with Pro/ENGINEER provides an environment that links powerful composite design, analysis, tooling and manufacturing capabilities.

As engineers strive to increase performance of their designs by reducing weight and increasing strength and stiffness, composites become the obvious material of choice. Together, CDT and PTC will provide engineers with the ability to unlock the incredible potential of composites. According to Ralph Verrilli, CDT Pro/ENGINEER Program Manager, 'We believe the integration of FiberSIM with Pro/ENGINEER will provide the tools necessary to overcome the unique challenges of designing and producing composite parts for the aerospace, automotive, marine, sporting goods and other industries needing the performance that composites provide.'

Integrated Product Functionality

Engineers access FiberSIM using standard menus from within the Pro/ENGINEER environment. Because the FiberSIM functionality is accessed directly from the Pro/ENGINEER interface, users can immediately apply FiberSIM throughout the composite design and manufacturing process. All of the commands needed to associate higher level features with geometry appear on familiar Pro/ENGINEER program menus, eliminating the need to learn a new interface and allowing engineers to learn FiberSIM/Pro within hours. FiberSIM also works directly on native Pro/ENGINEER geometry without translation, preserving a single part representation and eliminating the need to manage multiple data files.

In minutes, an engineer using FiberSIM/Pro can generate fiber paths for performance or producibility analysis and net flat patterns for complex composite plies. Using a unique material simulation technology that predicts how composite materials conform to complex surfaces, FiberSIM/Pro enables engineers to concurrently satisfy part geometry, material, and process constraints. With FiberSIM/Pro, engineers can visualize fiber orientations, predict manufacturing problems and take corrective action during the design stage all from within Pro/ENGINEER. Because of these revolutionary capabilities, companies will use FiberSIM/Pro to improve productivity, quality and performance, while reducing manufacturing costs.
