JEC Composites Exhibition: Innovative thermal treatment of carbon fibre composite materials

Precise process parameters and reliability are of great importance for the production of high-quality CFRP aviation structures, as for example helicopter cockpits made from carbon fibre-reinforded plastic material. For this challeging application, Vötsch Industrietechnik offers customised ovens, as well as seven model sizes of the standard series VTU. These can be supplied with a working chamber of between 200 and 8000 litres and nominal temperatures of 250, 300 and 350C.

For thermal treatment of aviation structures made from carbon fibre composite materials, movable rotating devices are often used which ensure a constant movement of the parts during the tempering process. As in many cases expensive products are thermally treated, important components of the tempering oven have a redundant design. To achieve optimum process results, it is important to maintain the set temperature-time-profile and achieve a homogeneous spatial temperature distribution within the oven.

Also for the production of CFRP pipes, Vötsch Industrietechnik offers drawer-type tempering ovens. The drawers are arranged one above the other on several levels, and are fitted with special moving devices to rotate the pipes during the hardening process.

Rugged dryers are appropriate for the different processes of heating and drying in production and research. The well-proven modular set-up is the basis for many variation possibilities and ensures considerably better process and drying results. Further advantages are shortened heating-up and recovery periods after opening the door, as well as a very good spatial temperature distribution.

An interesting possibility is the choice between vertical and horizontal air guiding within the usable room. This results in the most favourable adaptation of the flow conditions to the product.

Upon request, the modern monitoring system, in combination with the proprietary S!MPATI software, allows up to 99 units to be networked and controlled via one PC at the same time. The system is intranet- and internet-compatible. A standardized 8in touch panel display allows easy and intuitive system control and start/stop.
