Kappa Packaging specifies Euro-Cut rotary rule
|
Sandvik Coromant UK

|
Production trials at Kappa Northampton, aimed at increasing production efficiency and improving product quality, has led to Sandvik Saxon's Euro-Cut |
|
Responding to a customer requirement to minimise dust and swarf on food oil packaging, Kappa Northampton undertook extensive testing and in-line production trials of all diecutting rules, currently on the market. It was found that Sandvik's Euro-Cut rotary rule provides the cleanest cut with the least dust, and retains its sharpness. There was also less penetration of the anvil which produces less anvil wear and extends its life.
Euro-Cut is now specified for all rotary diecutting at Kappa Northampton and at other Kappa plants in the UK. This allows Kappa to enjoy the additional stock control benefits of one rule type being held.
Sandvik Saxon supplies in 3 point and 4 point thicknesses and in four different rule heights. Rotary dies are produced in standard 270mm and 487mm diameters.
By proving and maximising the rotary diecutting manufacturing route, Kappa Northampton has been able to increase overall production efficiency for food oil and similar packaging. It has transferred the process from a three pass printing and flat bed cutting operation to a single pass print and rotary cut on a Martin Midline 924 Casemaker.
Says Peter Holmes, Services and Die Cut Manager at Kappa Northampton, 'We value our supply partnerships greatly and the co-operation achieved between ourselves and our suppliers enables us to provide our customers with effective packaging solutions. Technical diemaking support helps us to maintain our leading market position. We are in a competitive market and need continuously to innovate and improve productivity.'
Jointly developed by Sandvik and National Steel rule, Euro-Cut was the first rotary cutting rule specifically designed to meet the needs of diemakers. It is a shaved edge, symmetrically ground, centre bevel rule. A combination of the shaved edge on a 345Hv body provides bendability with extended die life. Euro-Cut works equally well around or across the cylinder.
