Materialise participates in 2002 MPDC programme: 'Towards Optimising Injection Moulding and Design'

Materialise NV : 14 June, 2002  (Company News)
The Malaysian Plastics Manufacturing Association MPMA and the Malaysian Plastics Design Centre MPDC have invited Materialise, the world-leader in STL manipulation software, to be software provider for the mould and die design software in the 2002 upgrading program - 'Towards Optimising Injection Moulding & Design'. Partner participants are Moldflow for CAE and Cimatron for CAM.
Malaysia hosts a vast mould & die supporting industry. Materialise aims at advancing the involved companies to improve their quality and efficiency. Plastic manufacturing companies need to reinvent themselves to stay competitive against overseas low-cost fabrication. The Materialise tooling solutions introduce key ingredients for success in a plastics company and as such contribute to the upgrading programme.

Wim Michiels, Managing Director of Materialise Software Malaysia, is confident about the results: 'We offer our MAGICS engineering automation software to cut costs and time and to add quality in every sense of the word: good pricing, fast and reliable delivery and above all a superior product.'

Plastics companies are often working with low margins, which makes it vital to work efficiently throughout the complete product development chain, from CAD to final product. Materialise software solutions have their effect in the design room as well as on the shop floor. Ideally designs are optimised, tools are designed automatically, CNC machined and assembled directly with a minimum need for manual intervention. Excessive manual work comes usually in the picture if there are design shortcomings. The Materialise MAGICS software delivers optimal tool designs that result in the fastest way to a completed physical mould.

Short 'time-to-market' is a key demand of most modern customers, and in today's environment every day counts. The average tooling lead-time is around 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the product complexity. Being able to deliver a week earlier is a very strategic competitive advantage. Materialise MAGICS tooling solutions automated tool designs save out this time - both in design as in production - and as such deliver a plastics company the competitive edge.

Wim Michiels: 'Engineering good tools with Materialise MAGICS software is easy: MAGICS is a straightforward software, for which CAD experience is not a must. The software offers strong technical support as well, although basic tool-making knowledge is advisory. As a user, you just tell MAGICS your preferences and he'll do the work for you.'

What would take days or weeks using traditional tool design now only takes minutes. The result of all this is that the user can focus on designing the perfect tool, rather than doing 'monkey work' and in the process delivers a sub-optimal solution. In its turn, an optimised tool design contributes to high quality products, which is what the end-customer wants most.

Materialise together with MPDC now offer the powerful MAGICS software to the Malaysian plastics industry at strongly reduced prices as an incentive for companies to upgrade themselves. Thus with the Magics Tooling ability, companies now can automate the crucial steps of injection moulding and design, that enables toolmakers and injection moulders to shorten their delivery times and to increase their productivity. According to Mr. Noel J. Ha, Manager of MPDC, 'this programme is to introduce software that helps injection moulding companies optimising their injection moulding design and manufacturing process.' - And that's just what Materialise MAGICS does!
