Moog demonstrates advanced solutions for injection and blow molding machines

Moog will exhibit working demonstrations of new motion control products and systems using electric, hydraulic, and combined hydraulic-electric technologies. Displays at Booth No. 10-J04 in Hall 10 will feature advanced solutions that will help for injection and blow molding machine manufacturers to improve performance and overcome technical challenges.

Displays at Booth No. 10-J04 in Hall 10 will feature advanced solutions that will help for injection and blow molding machine manufacturers to improve performance and overcome technical challenges.

Expertise in motion control for plastic machines and access to a portfolio of high performance components in all three technologies (electric, hydraulic and combined hydraulic-electric) has enabled Moog’s engineers to create new, innovative solutions that will be featured in the booth. Four primary demonstrations are planned as follows:

1. A working prototype of Moog’s new electro-hydraulic radial piston pump with fieldbus interface and embedded axis controller.

2. An operational model of the PowerShot Injection System, hybrid solution for precision control of the injection axis of large and medium tonnage machines.

3. The new generation Total Machine Controller for Blow Molding Machines and electric parison and blow pin actuators.

4. Customized electric solutions featuring water-cooled servomotors.

Moog will have a team of experts in plastics applications from the Americas, Asia, and Europe on hand to discuss new projects and opportunities with plastics companies.

Radial Piston Pump with Digital Control:
Moog will introduce a working prototype of the electro-hydraulic radial piston pump with fieldbus interface and embedded axis controller as the solution for injection molding applications requiring high speed and reliability. The robust and contamination-resistant design of the RKP Pump is well-known in the plastics industry. It is now enhanced with a new proportional solenoid pilot valve with digital on-board electronics for local loop closure, tuning, and diagnostics. The high-performance, flexible microprocessor control system design makes this pump the ideal solution for a variety of pressure and volumetric flow control systems.

This pump can function as an analog 'plug and play“ device controlled by purely analog command signals for flow and pressure. By means of an additional 0.10V-signal, the user can select from 16 parameter sets to adapt the pump behavior to the different operational conditions, which occur in a complete machine cycle. Within each parameter set, the user can adjust the pressure regulator and various operational modes (master-slave, hybrid) as well as select 1 out of 2 pressure sensors. These 16 parameter sets are pre-defined ex works, but may also be easily modified using the Moog Valve Configuration Software setup tool to meet specific customers’ needs

For maximum flexibility, the pump can also be digitally controlled via the CAN Open interface, thereby offering the full range of functionality. With PDO mapping, in-depth online diagnosis capabilities and full access to all internal parameters during runtime, the available options are revolutionary.

PowerShot Injection System:
Moog will show an operational model of the PowerShot Injection System that combines the best of electric and hydraulic technologies. This compact unit can be installed easily and adapted to a wide variety of force, speed, and torque requirements. This unique technology is designed for demanding injection-molding applications that require operating at high speeds and/or forces, and precise control.

This system combines an electric actuator coupled to a sealed hydraulic system to provide precise control of clamp opening/closing, tonnage build, and mold break. This system combines the modularity, repeatability, and quietness of an electric system, with the high force of a hydraulic system, in a package that is energy-efficient and scaleable to a wide variety of machine sizes.
